Indians Thump Rock-a-Chaws
BAY ST. LOUIS—Both teams lit up the scoreboard Saturday, but the Biloxi Indians tallied more runs and defeated the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws 17-8 at St. Stanislaus.
The Indians started their scoring by stringing together four singles to take a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. An error turned into a run for St. Stanislaus to make the score 2-1 after one inning.
In the second, the Indians used an error, walk, and a three straight doubles to push their lead to 6-1, but the Rock-a-Chaws rallied, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-5.
Biloxi responded with a five spot in the top of the third, taking advantage of errors by St. Stanislaus, and the Indians took an 11-5. They kept that lead until the top of the sixth when the Indians scored six runs highlighted by a two run double by Ben Hurtado to give Biloxi a 17-5 lead.
St. Stanislaus added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game alive.
Hawtin Buchanan led the Indians at the plate going 3-4 with a single, two doubles and an RBI. Jordan Mata, Craig Wilson, Derek Whitfield, and Hurtado all had two RBIs for the Indians.
Lawrence Bourgeois led the Rock-a-Chaws, picking up two doubles and three RBIs.
T.J Andrews went three innings, striking out five, in the start for the Indians. Whitfield struck out four and worked the final four innings to pick up the win.
Biloxi battles Pascagoula for the district crown this week, and St. Stanislaus plays a pair against Pass Christian.
