Indians Earn Season Split with George County
BILOXI—The Biloxi bats roared back to life Friday in a 14-9 victory over the George County Rebels.
Mason Robbins led of the game with a double for George County and scored on Daniel Goff’s RBI single. The Indians answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Cody Brown led of with a triple, and was brought home by a Jordan Mata ground out. The next four Indian batters were walked or hit by a pitch, and singles by Ben Hurtado and Nick Wheelock scored a run each, chasing George County starter Jason McDonald.
The Indians plated three more runs in the bottom of the second. Craig Wilson led the inning off with a home run. Hawtin Buchanan was hit by a pitch and scored on Jordan Skog’s triple, and Skog scored on a Marcus Lawton single to make the score 8-1
George County scored three runs in the top of the fifth when Andrew Brown singled and Robbins doubled. Brown later scored on a sacrifice fly from McDonald, and Goff drove in Robbins with a two run shot to make the score 8-4. Biloxi scored twice in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 10-4.
Dayton Davis walked in the top of the sixth and scored on an Austin Brown double to cut the lead to five, but a grand slam by Cody Brown pushed the Indians lead to 14-5.
George County made the seventh interesting by scoring four runs off of Skog, who came in relief of Mata, the Biloxi starter. Skog struck McDonald to end the game and preserve the Biloxi victory.
Goff went two for four with three RBIs for the Rebels, and Brown had two singles and double and an RBI. Cody Brown led the Indian hitters going three for four with a triple, single, and grand slam. Ben Hurtado, Nick Wheelock, and Mata all went two for four.
Mata went six innings on the mound, giving up five runs and striking out eight.
The Indians (12-5, 6-2) and Rebels (8-7, 3-5) split their season series 2-2.
