Rebels Trip up the Indians
LUCEDALE–The George County Rebels took advantage of a strong pitching performance by Mason Robbins to take down the Indians at home 6-3 Tuesday.
Biloxi drew first blood in the top of the third when Hawtin Buchanan drove in Nick Wheelock and Jordan Mata with a double. Derek Whitfield drove in Buchanan to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
The Rebels answered back in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs. Andrew Brown hit a lead of single and moved to second base on a passed ball. He scored when Robbins singled to left, and Robbins moved to third base on a throwing error. Jason McDonald reached on an error that brought Mason home, and he would score on a Tyler Holifield sacrifice fly. Daniel Goff walked and scored on a Dayton Davis single.
Goff also drove in Robbins and Rusty Cochran as insurance runs with a single in the bottom of the sixth.
Robbins threw six innings, allowing three earned runs and seven hits while striking out 13 to pick up the win. Logan Robbins picked up the save, pitching a scoreless seventh.
Buchanan took the loss for the Indians. He pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs while giving up three hits and striking out five. Jordan Skog pitched the sixth, giving up two runs and striking out one.
George County coach Tony Neal was impressed with his starter’s performance. “That is a senior stepping up and doing his job,” said Neal. “Mason came out and was determined tonight. It was just a senior stepping up when we needed a big win and taking care of it.”
Biloxi (11-5, 5-2) and George County (8-6, 3-4) play again Friday in Biloxi.
